“People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish… but that’s only if it’s done properly.”
― Banksy, Wall and Piece.
So I stumbled upon Street Art Gallery Dubai due to absolute boredom in Summer. You know, when it is 45 Degrees here and you cannot possible go have coffee in Dubai Mall again?! (not even talking about shopping ’cause you’ve blown your month’s budget – out of BOREDOM) An hour later I walked out in awe, inspired and with THIS baby by Erni Vales:
Street Art Dubai, the first Street Art Gallery in Dubai dedicated to Street Art, Graffiti, Urban, Pop Art was only founded in 2013 – so all fresh and Dubai is only just starting to find out about Street Art and that not everything is Graffiti!
And I have been back since….:
So to cut a long lovestory short, I went with my friend Marie to see lovely Yelena at the Gallery – we are looking for a venue for an upcoming exciting fashion event (stay tuned). And who did we meet there? Hec1, who was hanging out to set up his exhibition “LOVEISM in Dubai”!
Those who are not familiar with Hec1, here is a brief bio of his: http://streetartdubai.ae/w/artists/3017-2/
And here some of the artwork we came, saw and conquered 🙂
And if you fancy seeing a REAL Damien Hirst:
So head down there for the official opening tonight!
The exhibition is on for a month. And make sure to check back to new and exciting exhibitions every couple of weeks.
About Street Art Dubai: Street Art Dubai, the first Street Art Gallery in Dubai dedicated to Street Art, Graffiti, Urban, Pop Art founded in 2013 by :
Thomas Perreaux-Forest, Art enthusiast and collector in 3rd generation. Lover of Modern, Pop & Street Arts and Contemporary design who also very much appreciates Art Déco. He acknowledged first interest in Arts being 6 years old, stricken by Giacometti’s “L’homme qui marche” while visiting the Maeght foundation, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Stephane Valici is a long time Art Collector and a succesfull businessman. Settled in Dubai since 2009 after more than 20 years of travelling around the world from Russia to Africa and having lived all over Europe for his professional career. He’s considering himself as a world citizen : ” I’m into all kind of Art & Cultures and the world is my Gallery, 2 hours driving around New-York or Berlin shows you more Artworks than the MOMA. Street Art is my long time favorite style and i’m still amazed by the creativity of those unrecognized Artists”.
When Stephane and Thomas discussed the Art Gallery project 10 years ago it was not about the middle East but Dubai being such an open canvas and a vibrant city worked its magic on both. They are now proud U.A.E residents and sharing the same passion for Art.
Love for the grafitti, dedication in finding artists all over the world and showcasing their work in Dubai pays off and now they can say with 100% confidence : “Street Art Dubai is born..”
